This cowl pleases me for several reasons… Using just about 200 yards, it’s perfect for those 100g skeins of “special yarn” that we often seem to acquire. The flared bottom helps it sit nicely around the base of the neck. Pretty scallops grace the top edge, and the lace pattern looks more complicated to knit than it actually is. The beautiful olive green colorway never fails to make me smile. All happy things!

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Scrumptious DK, one skein (80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon; 231 yds / 211 m to 100g).

Shown in colorway Manzanilla, and available in many other shades at www.marianatedyarns.com. Cowl shown used approximately 200-210 yds (183-193 m) of yarn.

Sizing:
26” (66 cm) around the base and 19” (48 cm) around the body, 12” (30 cm) high. The cowl is only offered in one size, but it can be easily adjusted! In the shown sample, the cowl provides plenty of coverage around the neck without being constrictive. If you wish for a wider cowl, add a pattern repeat or use a heavier yarn. If you wish for a shorter cowl, work fewer repeats of the main body motif.

Gauge:
22 sts and 30 rows to 4” in stockinette stitch — knit in the round and blocked.

Needles:
16” US 6 (4 mm) circular needle

PLEASE NOTE: I knit very tightly. I actually used a US 7 (4.5 mm) needle to achieve this gauge, but knitters who are typically “on gauge” will likely wish to use a US 6 (4 mm) needle. Very loose knitters will likely wish to use a US 5 (3.75 mm) needle. Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used.

Other Materials:
Tapestry needle, stitch marker to mark beginning of round (or nine stitch markers in total if you wish to separate pattern repeats)

Skills Needed:
Working in the round, basic lace increases and decreases
