This design is a modern take on the traditional Guernsey from my home island. I used my grandmother’s old handwritten notes to formulate the basic design before adding a patterned Gansey
yoke. Magazine includes an accompanying article about this process.

The stitch patterns used in the gansey patterning are all traditional—apart from the central one, which is the Cross of St. John, taken from the center of the Guernsey flag.

Knitted in the round from the bottom up, this sweater has gentle waist shaping, underarm gussets and sleeves knitted from the top down.
