Magic Lamp is an original crochet pattern by June Gilbank.

A life-sized magic lamp fit for Aladdin’s Genie! Make it as a realistic toy for playtime, or to display as a beautifully-shaped decorative piece.

Yarn: worsted weight yarn in any suitable colour (e.g. yellow, grey, brown or orange to simulate metal: gold/silver/brass/copper etc)

Hook: E US/3.5mm crochet hook

Details: The detailed pattern is 11 pages long, packed full of photos, and includes 2 variations:

• The pictured lamp, which includes a decorative raised diamond detail (worked as you go) for the lid and base of the lamp. The pattern includes complete step-by-step photo tutorials for the diamond shapes, for both right- and left-handers.

• A simplified option with a plain lid and base. The undecorated pieces omit the diamonds, but still have exactly the same shaping as the standard lid and base, so your lamp will still look elegant and shapely even if you don’t feel like tackling the special stitches!

This is a modular pattern: save paper and ink by printing only the pages you need (decorative base and lid or simplified base and lid; right-handed or left-handed diamond instructions, or neither).

The pattern also includes options for making the cleverly-shaped handle, to make it more sturdy and rigid with wires, or child-friendly without the wires. (The handle shape is crocheted right in, whichever option you choose - the pictured sample has no wires!)
