Machair
Machair has been inspired by places where the sea meets the land, and in particular, the machair (“fertile plain” in Gaelic) of the Outer Hebrides: a beautiful coastal area of dunes and grassland where rare flowers and birds thrive. The Machair shawl features bold chevron waves with simple yarn-overs and small bobbles adding texture to hint at the elegant grasses and flowers found in the machair landscape.
Machair is a slightly asymmetric triangular shawl which begins at one corner and works towards the bottom edge. As the shawl grows, new chevrons are added at each side on every second stripe, and towards the end of the shawl some simple short rows are worked to help shape the asymmetric triangle.
