The Lydia Bennet Socks are the eighth in a collection of patterns named after women from Jane Austen novels. I like to design the socks with an eye to what the character might like to knit. Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister, is impatient and loud. These socks look a lot more complicated than they are - the lace pattern is easy to memorize and very intuitive. (And, of course, you can see the color a mile away!)

These socks are worked from the cuff down. They are written for magic-loop knitting and include a heel flap and gusset, but feel free to substitute your own style of knitting and preferred heel method. The back of the leg and bottom of the foot are in plain stockinette, while the leg is patterned all the way around and the pattern continues down the foot.

The lace chart (both written and charted) is not difficult and looks best in a solid or tonal yarn, though it shines in both light and dark shades! It can be fun to use scraps for heels and toes or even to create your own stripes! Use your imagination and have a ton of fun with this pattern.
