Casual men’s hoodie with a unique pattern.

Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Summer 2007: “A faux-woven checkerboard pattern accents the torso in this generous Katarina Brieditis hoodie. Gray-charcoal on the outer edges and a silvery heather on the central panel sets off the warmth of the petrol blue woven motifs. The edges are hemmed for unfussy borders.”

Yarn: Jamieson’s Spindrift 2-Ply (100% wool; 115 yd 105 m/25 g): #123 Oxford (dark gray), 10 (11, 12) balls; #122 granite (light gray), 6 (7, 7) balls; and #1020 nighthawk (dark teal), 3 (4, 4) balls. Yarn distributed by Simply Shetland.

Needles:

• Size 2 (3 mm): straight or 24” circular (cir) and double-pointed (dpn) for working small block pattern on front.
• Facings - size 1½ (2.5 mm): straight or 24” cir needle.
• Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Removable markers (m) or scrap yarn; stitch holders or large safety pins; tapestry needle.

Notes:

• The front and back middle sections are worked from side to side. Stitches are picked up along one selvedge of each middle section and worked down to the hemmed lower edge, and then stitches are picked up along the opposite selvedge and worked up to the shoulders.
• Work the different-colored panels of the upper and lower back and front in stockinette stitch intarsia, using separate lengths of yarn for each color section and twisting yarns together between blocks to avoid leaving holes.
• On right-side rows, always slip the first stitch knitwise with yarn in back. On wrong-side rows, slip the first stitch purlwise with yarn in front. When working small blocks, after slipping the first stitch tighten the working yarn a bit before working next stitch to create a smoother edge.
• Arrows on the diagram indicate the direction in which each small block of the front is worked. Stitches that remain on holders after completing the small blocks are also shown on the diagram.
