Designed to show of the amazing Viola yarns, LUMINOUS is a stunning shawl knit working alternating stripes of Merino Fingering or Sock and Mohair Lace yarn in a simple stockinette pattern. Shawl is worked from a center tab at top down to the bottom edge with integrated I-cord on the top edge and decorative picot BO along the bottom.

The shawl is so lightweight that you hardly know you are wearing it!

I have knit 3 of them and don’t know which one I like best. For my first one I used both stripes in the same color, Giant Peach. For my second one I decided to use more contrast with Bright Pea and Pollen. And for my current one I am using more complementary colors, Speckled Mist and Sweet Dreams. But all of Viola’s yarns are so special you can’t go wrong!

And, of course, you can substitute with any of the lovely hand-dyed yarns currently available in fingering or sock and mohair yarns.

YARN

• Viola Yarns’ Merino Fingering 100% superwash Merino Wool; 400yds/366m per 100g skein and Mohair Lace 72% Mohair and 28% Silk; 459yds/420m per 50g skein: 1 skein each or

• Approx 400yds/366m of both a smooth fingering-weight and a fuzzy lace-weight yarn

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS

• US size 4 (3.5mm) 32”/80cm circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE
23 sts and 36 rows = 4”/10cm in St st using A and B in alternating rows after blocking

While exact gauge is not critical, variation in gauge will alter yardage requirement and measurements.

CONSTRUCTION
Worked from center tab at top down to bottom edge. The top edge is worked as an integrated I-cord and the bottom is finished with a decorative picot BO.
