The word ‘lumikello’ is the Finnish name for snowdrop flower. The beanie got its inspiration from snowdrop flower that bloom in the late winter and beginning of spring. When ever I see snowdrops peeking through the snow, I know that spring is on its way!

The Lumikello Beanie is knitted bottom up with a strand of DK weight highland wool held together with a strand of silk mohair to add a beautiful halo. The body and crown of the beanie has a beautiful cable pattern that resemble snowflowers in bloom. The cable pattern is a modification from a cable chart found in Hitomi Shida’s Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible.

The finished beanie has a circumference of 38.5 (45) cm / 15.25 (17.75) inches and is worn with negative ease of 10–14 cm / 4–5.5”. This hat stretchy, and will fit a range of head sizes.

The beanie is to fit head circumference 52–56 (58–62) cm / 20.5–22 (22.75–24.50) inches.

Yarns: 1 skein of Aara Halla (100% highland wool, 220 m / 246 yds per 100 g) in the colourway Helmi or approximately 190 (210) m / 208 (229.5) yds of DK weight yarn and

1 skein of Aara Hieno (72% kid-mohair, 28% silk, 420 m / 459 yds per 50 g) in the colourway Helmi or 190 (210) meters / 208 (229.5) yds of lace weight yarn

Yarn modifications
If you wish to knit the beanie with one strand only, I recommend you to pick an aran weight yarn and to at least have approximately 190 (210) m / 208 (229.5) yds

Needles
3.5 mm / US 6 circular needles with a cable length of Ø 80 cm / 32 inches for ribbing and
4 mm / US 6 circular needles with a cable length of Ø 80 cm / 32 inches for body and crown

Note! Remember to always use a needle size that get you to the gauge. The beanie is knitted using Magic Loop technique, but you can knit with shorter circular needles such as Ø 40 cm / 16” and DPNs

Lumikello-pipo sai inspiraationsa nimensä mukaisesti kevättalvella kasvavista kellokukista. Kun lumikellot alkavat pilkottamaan lumen läpi, niin silloin jo tietää, että kevät tekee tuloaan!

Lumikello-pipo on neulottu alhaalta ylös DK-vahvuisella highland wool -villalangalla yhdessä silkkimohairlangan kanssa. Pipon keskiosaa ja päälakea koristaa kauniit palmikkoneuleen muodostamat kukkakuviot. Palmikkoneule on muunnelma palmikkoneule-kaaviosta, joka löytyy Hitomi Shidan kirjasta Japanilaiset neulemallit (eng. Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible).
