Lukę Skywalker's Flight Vest
Growing up with his aunt and uncle on their moisture farm, Luke has always dreamed of becoming a pilot. He finally gets his chance at the end of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope when he joins the Rebel Starfleet in their attack on the Death Star. With many talented pilots flying X-wings equipped with droids, the Rebel Alliance is the first line of defense against the Empire, and a force to be reckoned with in battle. The uniform worn by Luke and the other Alliance pilots in A New Hope is an undisputed classic: a bright orange flight suit, helmet, harness, thermal gloves, insulated boots, and a white flak vest, worn to protect the upper torso.
Now Luke’s famous flak vest can be a part of your personal wardrobe. Versatile enough to be worn as a costume or an everyday accessory, this cropped vest is a must for any fan. Knit in two identical pieces, the front and back of the flak vest are trapezoidal-shaped, edged in attached i-cord, and joined by narrow straps going over the shoulders. The textured welting technique is done by picking up stitches from a previous row and three-needle joining as it is knit. An attached belt with belt loops creates a fitted look, cinching in at the waist.
