Fast yet interesting like the Luge run, bold twisty cables run spiralling against bands of large snowflake lace. The sort of cowl you’ll want to snuggle into on a chill winter’s day to protect against the Arctic wind.

The cowl has two versions, standard loop & a deeper shaped one and is easily customised for size depending on choice of yarn and number of repeats. It is worked in the round, has an easy lace pattern including dropped stitches and is suitable for the intermediate knitter. The 8 row repeat is easy to memorise and, using chunky yarn, can be easily knitted in a couple of evenings or a weekend. There are also wristers (wrist warmers / fingerless mitts) in a similar but not identical pattern.

SIZES: 
Standard cowl: approx. circumference 46’’ / 117 cm; depth 8.5’’ / 21.5 cm.
Deeper shaped cowl: approx. circumference 46’’ / 117 cm; depth 9.5’’ / 24 cm. Around top 32’’ / 81 cm
Wristers: to fit average women’s hands. Approx. circumference 9 ‘’ / 23 cm; length 5.5’’ / 14 cm.

GAUGE: 4” / 10 cm over stocking stitch before blocking: 12 sts / 16 rows


MATERIALS & TOOLS: 
Yarn: chunky (super bulky) weight. A thinner yarn can be used by adjusting CO sts & rows.
Standard cowl, approximately 198 yd / 181 m.
Deeper shaped cowl, approximately 190 yd / 174 m.
Wristers, approximately 60 yd / 55 m, chunky (super bulky) weight.
Needles: 40” / 100 cm circular needle: US # 10.5 / 7 mm or size for gauge.
DPNS or short circular in same size if preferred for the wristers.

Notions: cable needle; 1 stitch marker.

SKILL LEVEL: intermediate (3 / 5).

SKILLS NEEDED: knitting in round, cabling, lace knitting, dropped sts, decreasing in pattern (shaped cowl).
