Lucy's Cable Hat
Materials: 16 Inch US #8 Circular Needle, 16
Inch US #10 Circular Needle, Set of US #10
Double Pointed Needles, Cable needle, Yarn
Needle, and 100 Yards One Ply Alpaca Or Wool
Yarn or any Heavy Worsted Weight Yarn.
For a Medium Size: Cast on 60 stitches with the
#8 Circular Needles. Place a Marker on the
Needle and join stitches being careful not to
twist the stitches.
Knit 1, Purl 2 Ribbing each Round for 1 1/2
inches. Change to the #10 Circular Needles.
Pattern Stitch: Knit 4, Purl 2 around.
Repeat this Pattern for 4 more Rows.
Cable Row: Put the first 2 stitches on the cable
needle and hold in the front of work, Knit the
next 2 stitches, then knit the 2 stitches on the
cable needle. This creates a twist to the left. Purl
2 Stitches between the cables. Repeat the Pattern Stitch ** above for 8 rows.
Repeat the Cable Row and the 8 Row Pattern Three times for a total of 32 rows above
the ribbing.
Complete the Cable Row, then Knit 5 Rows of the Pattern Stitch.
Start Decreasing for the Cap
6th Round: Knit 4, Purl 2 Together. Repeat, Purling the 2 Purl Stitches together
around.
7th Round: Knit 4, Purl 1 Around.
8th Round: Knit 1, Knit 2 Tog, Knit 1, Purl 1 Around.
Cable Row: Put the first two knit stitches on the cable needle and keep stitches in the
front of your work. Knit the third stitch, and then Knit the two stitches from the cable
needle. Purl one stitch between the cables. Repeat this pattern around. End with a purl
stitch.
Knit one Round. Change to Number 10 Double Pointed Needles distributing stitches
evenly on three needles.
Then K2, K 2 Tog Repeat in this Round.
K 1, K 2 Tog Repeat in this Round.
Knit 2 Tog around last two Rounds.
5 Stitches Remain. Gather Remaining Stitches, Tie Off, and Weave in Loose Ends.
