Any color of cotton yard, pattern will use appx 2oz to complete. Should be a solid color, and try to avoid very dark or very bright colors as they might make pattern harder to see

Needle size is your preference. If you are a loose knitter try using one needle size smaller than you usually use. I am a loose knitter and I use a US3 when I knit my samples
