Lucas Point is a design built directly into CustomFit, which means that each Lucas Point pattern is written specifically to your choice of gauge and size.

Lucas Point is part of the design collection for the 2017 make. wear. love. west retreat. It’s a update on my beloved (and now fairly old) design Caulfield. Lucas Point features the same 3/4-sleeve, open-front look as the original - but now sports a comfortable A-line silhouette and updated trims.

It’s worked in pieces from the bottom up, with set-in sleeves. The sample uses a tunic sweater length and 3/4 sleeves, but you can change either before creating your pattern by selecting different lengths on this page. Since the sweater is worked with A-line shaping, you can make it for bodies with simplified measurement sets, including kids.

The sample is shown in the lovely Indigodragonfly CaribouBaa, in the colorway “Epiphyte Club”. The 100% merino is soft and lovely to knit with, and the slightly-speckled nature of this colorway (and the similarly-dyed colorways that Kim has created) make a great match for the slip-stitch texture of this design.

I liked the CaribouBaa at a gauge of approximately 8 stitches and 11 rows to 1’’ (2.5 cm); if you’re using the same yarn, at the same gauge, you’ll need approximately 4 (5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10) hanks of the CaribouBaa for a standard-size 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)’’ sweater.

If you’re using a different mix or gauge, I strongly recommend Hannah Fettig’s excellent app Stashbot for yardage estimates. Because while I’ve given approximate quantities for standard size sweaters, CustomFit will make Lucas Point in the size and gauge of your choice. (And it’s pretty tough to give yardage requirements for any possible combination!)
