Lovely for Lavender
Lavender is a wonderful natural deterrent to ward off the moths that would love to munch their way through our precious hand knits. So why not protect your special woollens with hand knit lavender bags which are also perfect for using up scraps of yarn and leftovers.
These Lavender Bags are the ideal accompaniment to gifted hand knits to allow the recipients to protect their gifts, or as gifts to fellow knitters.
Each lavender bag combines Fair Isle stranded knitting motifs and lace edgings. They have optional I-cord hanging loops and can be made with or without lace edging.
Hexagons are worked in the round staring with a small number of stitches on double pointed needles (dpns) and increasing as you work out from the centre and integrating stranded colourwork motifs/peeries.
All the patterns use the same basic shape so fronts and backs can be matched or mixed, or backs can be left plain or striped.
If you have a favourite peerie that will work to the number of stitches charted, the patterns can be easily personalised.
Alternatively, worked in 4 ply cotton, two hexagons sewn together make wonderful coasters.
Optional modifcation - thanks to yukachan08 for this suggestion, cast off the back hexagon to the last 3 stitches and then use these stitches to make the I-cord hanging loop.
Thanks also to Rhianne, Mjin, and Rosegil for testing the pattern and providing wonderful feedback.
