Inspired by my favourite alpaca, Santiago, who can be a bit cheeky at times. Originally designed in pure alpaca handspun donated by Santiago and his buddy Teddy; a cosy wool or blended yarn will work equally well to create this fun, warm hat.

Needles: 4.0 mm/ US6 circular(s) or double pointed needles for working in the round.
3.5 mm/ US 4 needles for working i-cord edging.

Yarn: 50g double knit weight yarn, 202m/100g, in two colours, 100g total.
Shown in:
A Little Bit Sheepish British Bluefaced Leicester Double knit yarn in Minerva (MC) and Diana (CC).
Handspun alpaca donated by Santiago (MC) and Teddy (CC).

Notions: Tapestry needle, six stitch markers, three stitch holders.

Skills: Cast on (Emily Ocker cast on optional), knit, knitting in the round, increasing stitches, colourwork (wrapping of floats recommended), purl, decreasing stitches, i-cord bind off (instructions given), weaving in ends.

Gauge: 22 stitches and 28 rows over 10 cm / 4” in colourwork stocking stitch after blocking.

Sizing: Small (medium, large) corresponds to 50.5 (56, 61) cm/ 20 (22, 24)” head circumference, designed with minimal ease. Note- the colourwork reduces the stretch of the knit fabric somewhat so you will work more stitches than for a plain hat in the same size.
The pattern creates quite a deep hat, for more of a snug fit you can omit the top band of patterning from the chart.
