Long John Mitts
My family loves to ski, and we spend many Winter weekends in Vermont. Long John is the long and winding trail we often use as our first run when we visit Mount Snow resort. The traveling slipped stitch makes its way through the hat in the same fashion that we navigate our way through this gorgeous path. It’s set atop a bed of striped 1X1 rib that makes for a squishy, stretchy fabric that will fit multiple sizes. Whether you ski or sit in the lodge, this hat will keep you cozy and warm!

PATTERN NOTES
• Pattern is written for the smaller size, with the larger size in parentheses.
• Mitts is worked in the round, from the bottom up.
• Any time you are changing colors between rounds, if you
are carrying them up, be sure to pick the new color up from behind the old color, crossing the two colors over one another to prevent any holes.
• Fabric created from the stitch pattern is extremely stretchy, therefore this hat may be worn with a varying amount of negative ease.
• Both written directions and charted directions are provided.
• While these directions are quite wordy, there are several ways to intuitively knit this pattern:
• With the exception of the thumb gusset, CC rows are worked by maintaining the rib pattern
throughout with the exception of the one twisted stitch which is slipped.
• With the exception of the thumb gusset, MC rows are worked by maintaining the rib pattern with the exception of the traveling twisted stitch. • We made this hat without the use of a
cable needle. For a video tutorial click HERE
