I had always had this idea for a matching set of Pullovers for me and my daughter to wear! It had been mellowing out in my mind for a while until early 2018. Then I spent most of 2018 working on this idea and I love how it turned out.

You will use two colours (or more if you wish) of fingering weight yarn to create these stripes, and then with the added detail of the cables in the Raglan area which continue down in the body, and then start to travel in towards the middle towards the bottom mimicking the Raglan shaping at the top. This sweater remains engaging without having an overwhelming amount of instructions to keep track of.

Note if you purchase this pattern along with its counterpart the Big Red Pullover you can get a 20% discount - no code needed just add both patterns to your cart (previous purchases apply)

What You Will Need:

Yarn – 100-300gm of Fingering weight yarn (425m/465yrds per 100gm) - Full yardage requirements for each size is shown in the Size Chart which can be found in the last photo on the left.

Sample shown in Mon Sheep Shop in the Petit Pieds base (75/25 Superwash Merino/Nylon) in the Little Red Hood (Main Colour / MC) & Big Bad Wolf (Contrast Colour / CC) colourways (425m/100gm). The sample pullover is shown in the 2-4yr size, modeled on a tall 19 month old toddler.

Needles – 3.75mm (US5) and 3.25mm (US3) 16 inch (40cm) and 24 inch (60cm) circulars for body and longer cables (32inch/80cm or longer) for magic loop on the sleeves or DPN’s in both needle sizes.

(Note: for the smaller sizes if you are having trouble joining in the round with the 16inch cable I suggest using magic loop on a longer cable until there are more stitches to work in the round comfortably)

Gauge – 26 sts and 36 rounds in 4 inches / 10 cm, in stockinette after blocking on larger needles.

Notions

  • Stitch markers (8),
  • Beginning of Round Marker,
  • Side Seam marker,
  • Scrap yarn (or stitch holders),
  • Tapestry Needle,
  • Cable Needle (optional)

Sizes – The pattern includes 8 child sizes ranging from 0-6 months up to 8-10 years. The sweater is intended to be worn with about 2 inches of positive ease so pick a size with this in mind. As children tend to grow quite quickly I have added extra length into the pattern for the sleeves and body as standard, but this can be easily adjusted to suit your preference. I suggest you go through the pattern and highlight the numbers relevant to the size you are choosing to knit to avoid confusion when working through the pattern. (See sizing chart and schematic in the last two photos on the left).
