This cosy blanket is a great stash buster.
I used one strand of aran weight yarn and 1 strand of a sparkly cotton slub knitted together for the main part, grading the aran shades from gold at the top to dark orange at the base of the tail. You could use a thick chunky yarn as an alternative.

Two sizes to fit ages 4-6 years and 7-10 years.
