The Little Mary Anning set includes booties, bonnet, and a cardigan, all with minimal seaming. It features a cast-on in a contrasting colour and lacework.

The pattern suggests an easier method for accomplishing 4ktog and 4ktogtbl - two stitches that, as usually written, are both difficult and time consuming for many knitters. The suggested variation for the Lucina Shell lacework, along with the worsted weight yarn, allows the knitter to complete the project quickly and easily, while creating an heirloom project.

In keeping with the nautical theme suggested by the Lucina Shell pattern, the design is named for Mary Anning, the extraordinary 19th century paleontologist who specialized in finding fossils of marine reptiles. The colour story was chosen to suggest the sea and shore, in which she searched her specimens.
