Lisbeth
The Syndicate Hats collection is a tribute to my knitting group, Strikkesyndikatet (The Knitting Syndicate). This one is for Lisbeth.
Lisbeth, our nurse-in-training, has recently fallen in love with colorwork. She always has a lot of energy, is our speediest knitter (proven in contest!), and I had expected colorwork to slow her down a bit – but no! Her excuse for casting-on-all-the-things is “You can always squeeze in another hat, right?” A colorwork hat seemed appropriate for her. Let’s see how fast she cranks this one out!
The hat is worked from the brim up, starting with a tubular cast on and a ribbed brim. A fun, bubbly colorwork pattern makes up the body of the hat, mirroring Lisbeth’s energetic enthusiasm.
Yarn:
MC: Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% Merino), Worsted weight, 192 meters / 210 yards per 100g, 1 skein. Colorway: “027 Bobby Blue”.
CC: Rainbow Heirloom Sweater (100% Merino), Worsted weight, 229 meters / 250 yards per 100g, 1 skein. Colorway: “Fluffy Bunny”.
For CC, you will need only a small amount for this hat (excluding pompom) – for the sample, I used 15g of yarn.
Needles:
3,5 mm / US 4 circulars, 40 cm / 16 inches or longer for working magic loop.
4,5 mm / US 7 circulars, 40 cm / 16 inches or longer for working magic loop.
optional: double pointed needles size 4,5 mm / US 7 for crown shaping.
Size:
S(M), corresponding to:
S: child (1-2 years), to fit a head circumference of 46,5 cm / 18.25 inches. Finished measurements: circumference 37,5 cm / 14.75 inches, length 19 cm / 7.5 inches from brim to crown.
M: women’s M, to fit a head circumference of 56 cm / 22 inches. Finished measurements: circumference 45 cm / 7.75 inches, length 22 cm / 8.75 inches from brim to crown.
Each repeat of the stitch pattern requires 15 sts, and will change the size by around 7,5 cm / 3 inches.
Other:
5(6) stitch markers, one different for marking beginning of rnd.
Waste yarn for tubular cast on.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
Sample uses gauge of 20 sts & 27 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch working colorwork on bigger needles, after blocking.
