A magnificent shawl, covered in an intricate filigree of delicate cables on a dark background, reminding of lightbeams inside a gothic cathedral.
Working on this shawl requires attention, but the result is breathtakingly beautiful!

This big, 2/3 of a circle shawl is worked from the top down with radial increases. The work is divided into 5 sections/repeats, with increases inside each repeat every other row. Sections change their position throughout the work, so to shape the shawl in a graceful manner.

Each section starts with two symmetrical cable (“beams”) that move away from each other, then continue moving away from other sections. To connect the beams new cables are created that move diagonally and then form diamond shapes and pointed arches when they join. Finally, the “beams” bloom in a sort of geometric flower shapes.

Working this complex filigree pattern that changes on every row, with very few repeats, needs attention, but no complex stitches are involved: the whole shawl is designed with only the simplest 1/1 cables over a garter background. And no purling in sight!

Finished size: 120 cm width and 60 cm depth. (47.25” length and 23.5” width).
Yarn
MC: Dark Omen Yarn SILKY SHADOWS (75% Superkid Mohair, 25% Mulberry Silk; 459.25 yards 420 m/50 g), col. Void, approx 800 m.
CC: Dark Omen Yarn LUXOR (80% Merino, 20% Silk; 875 yards 800 m/100 gr), col. Joy, approx 800/900 m.
Note 1: Choose two yarn colors with a good contrast between them. In my opinion, the best results are achieved with a light CC and a dark MC.
Note 2: You can find beautiful kits for this shawl from Dark Omen Yarn. Please check it out!
