Lifted Twill Hats: Simple Hat
Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Winter 2008: “The innovative stitch pattern of Karen Kendrick-Hand’s Lifted Twill Hats mimics a twill weave with lifted increases and compensating decreases. Two colors of hand-dyed yarn give the stitch richness and dimension.”
Finished Size: Simple hat: 20” head circumference. Helmet hat: 17¾“ head circumference.
Yarn: Sheep Shop Yarn Sheep Number Two (100% wool; 90 yd 82 m/100 g): #F72 lavender and #F31 green, 1 skein each. See Notes for color designations for each hat.
Needles: Size 11 (8 mm): 16” circular (cir) and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Markers (m); waste yarn for provisional CO (helmet hat only); tapestry needle.
Notes:
-
The stitch pattern used in this hat is a new discover/creation by the designer. The simple hat focuses on the stitch pattern so that an advanced beginner can tackle it. The helmet hat (with earflaps) involves more advanced elements, such as a provisional cast-on, applied I-cord, and tapered earflaps. For both hats, the spiraling decreases in the crown are created by working a k2tog decrease without the accompanying left lifted increase.
-
For the simple hat, A is lavender and B is green. For the helmet hat, A is green and B is lavender.
