A simple, quick project: a cross-body bag in which to carry your mobile phone. The bag has a flap with instructions for a choice of fastenings: ties to make a bow fastening, or a loop for a button fastening. The bag is made in one long rectangle, starting at the flap edge, and folded, so it is easy to make the bag longer than the one I’ve made. The sides are crocheted together, and loops made to take the strap. The strap is a crocheted Romanian cord on the larger hook, with swivel lobster clasps attached at each end. I used an indie dk yarn/light worsted yarn, but any similar dk yarn will work. The pattern is a 2 stitch repeat, so it can be easily adjusted to be wider than the one I’ve made. The pattern is written in English and uses UK terms.

Gauge: 17 rows and 20 stitches to 4 inches over pattern for bag body

Mobile Phone Bag- Abbreviations (UK Terms)

Beg - beginning
BL - back loop eg BLtr, work the tr into the back loop of the stitch
Bobble- work 5 trebles into the same place, omitting the final stage of each stitch so that the last loop of each stitch remains on the hook (6 loops on hook). Wrap the yarn over the hook and draw through all of the loops on the hook.
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
FPtr - front post treble crochet. Work the treble around the post, inserting the hook from front to back and then front again.
Slst - slip stitch

RS - right side
WS - wrong side

Mobile Phone Bag- Pattern Notes

The bag is worked as one long rectangle, which is folded to create a back, front and closing flap.
The sides of the bag are crocheted together. If you prefer, you could sew them together.
The bag starts at the flap edge.
Work is turned at the end of each row.
The bag strap is made separately and attached to the bag with swivel lobster clasps, but could also be stitched directly to the bag if preferred.
