Three clues for this small lace scarf will be released on August 1, 15 and 29, giving you the perfect schedule for lazy summer knitting when you might want to work on only a few rows before heading out to sway in the hammock or float on the lake. (Apologies to those who live in the southern hemisphere--you are welcome to join us with some Lazy Winter Knitting!)

Originally designed for a single 100 g skein of wool sock yarn, you might consider knitting this shawl in cellulose fibres like cotton or bamboo. With additional yarn, you could make this scarf longer; consider colour blocking with three 50-gram balls of yarn. With even more yarn, you could turn this design into a wrap; add stitches in 8-stitch multiples for additional width, and knit to the length you desire. Or, try knitting this design with yarns of different weights—lace weight for a more ethereal look, or worsted weight for a heavier scarf for Winter.

This design uses lace stitch patterns, so you will probably want to knit at a looser gauge than what is recommended on the yarn band. Achieving exact tension as stated in the introductory package is not necessary for the successful completion of this project; it is more important that you create a fabric you like. Swatch with needles of different sizes until you achieve a fabric you like. If you want to swatch in a lace pattern, I suggest using the “Little Arrowhead” stitch pattern Iinstructions in introductory package) as it has an appropriate ratio of eyelets to solid stitches, and will give you a good feel for the fabric you will be creating for your shawl.
