Lava Lamp Sweater
The draft of this pattern is being distributed for test knitting the pattern will remain free until test knitting is complete, then be available for purchase.
My husband is a fan of bright colors. One of his complaints about my hand knit sweaters was that my color choice was often subdued (not his word choice..) So, I set out to find the brightest wool colors I liked in an effort to please his tastes.
The vibrant colors combined with simple short row inserts placed to add needed fullness in the areas typically requiring fullness make for a garment which is comfortable to wear and will warm not only your body, but your soul on those dreary winter days.
• The sweater is knit side to side starting at the right sleeve, at the neck opening the Back is continued while the Front is placed on hold. The left front and sleeve are added on to the back. Finally the stitches of the Right Front Flap are picked up and knit. See Schematic below.
• A kimono style crossed front is featured with dual button closure which allows for either the Left or Right Front to be worn to the outside.
• Neck and fronts are finished with i-cord edging which extends to form loops for button closure of each front.
• Double Stitch Short-Row technique is used for color and shaping inserts, called Inserts. Described in Special Techniques Section.
Sizing – Designed to be worn with 2-4” of positive ease.
Women’s Small: 36/42” at bust/hips
Medium: 39/45” at bust/hips
Large: 42/48” at bust/hips
XL: 46/52” at bust/hips
XX: 50/56” at bust/hips
• An alternative Tall version is given adding 2.5” to length.
Corrections: Please note the directions for the left front section in size Medium should be adding an additional 4 rows, not 3. All short row insertions should be started on the front side at the bottom of the piece, so that your cast on stitches are to the center and live stitches will be to the left.
