Laurel Hill
The Laurel Hill Shawl is a graceful arc of an airy open stitch combined with garter stitch and Stockinette stitch bands. An optional picot bind off finishes the bottom edge. Asymmetrical in shape, it is worked from tip to base of the triangle.
The finished measurements are a wingspan of 70” after blocking and a center depth of 28.5” after blocking.
You will need 450 yards each of two contrasting colors: the sample here is worked in Squish Wish Sock by Dye is Cast Yarns in the colorway Antique Mystique (trinity stitch sections) and Merino Superwash Sock Twist by Cloudborn Fibers in the colorway Shaela Heather (garter and Stockinette sections).
A US size 5 (3.75mm) 32” circular needle is used. Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
This is a good project for the Adventurous Beginner or the Intermediate Knitter. Besides knit and purl, you will be knitting in the front and the back of a stitch to increase (kf&b), and doing a purl 3 together to decrease.
