Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main shopping street, lends it’s name to this super chunky and light scarf made in Tunisian crochet. The over-sized hook, specially crafted in Iceland, opens up a myriad of possibilities for fast projects and fun textures.

Size: one for all, make it as long and wide as you like
Measurements: shown here: 17cm/6” X 1.90m/6’5”
Materials: Plötulopi, Icelandic un spun Lopi, 100% wool, wheels approx. 110g/3.9oz. The size shown calls for 180g.
Tunisian crochet hook 18-20mm/0.7-0.8” in diameter
For the fringes: Here I use BC Lucca Merino wool cut into 25cm/9.5” pieces, around 30 for each section. Use what you find lying around!
Gauge: Not really important… but for the scarf shown it’s 6 stitches x 3.5 rows = 10×10cm / 4×4”

Techniques:
The scarf is worked back and forth in Tunisian simple stitch (TSS) and Tunisian purl stitch (TPS) forming vertical lines in the fabric.
Remember that each row in Tunisian crochet consists of picking up all the stitches and casting off all the stitches. The last stitch of each row is always worked in TSS.
The last (far left) stitch of each row is picked up by bringing the hook under two of the three vertical strands at the edge.
When you start casting off (second half of each row) remember to pull the yarn through the first loop and then pull the yarn through two loops together working your way to the right edge, until only one loop remains on the hook. That loop will be the first stitch of your next row
