The Needs:

Needles:

  • US 7 (4.5mm) 40” (101cm) circular needle.

Yarn:

  • Fuse Fiber Studio Merino Singles, 100% Superwash Merino Wool. (400yds/100g per skein). For this shawl, I’m #TeamContrast
    • Color A: “Breakline”, a light, bluey-grey.
    • Color B: “Midnight”, a deep, dark purple.

Notions:

  • 10 stitch markers.
  • 1 tapestry needle.

Gauge:

  • 11 stitches and 13 rows 4” (10cm) blocked garter stitch flat. This is a very loose gauge achieved by using larger needles than intended for the yarn (makes the mesh look great without changing needles, too!)

Finished dimensions:

  • 73” (185 cm) wingspan and 26” (66cm) deep triangle shawl.

Stitches/Techniques Used:

Beginner friendly! Featuring my proprietary technique to replace a garter tab, the “Slip Stitch Tab”. No fiddly picking up stitches any longer! The design also uses garter stitch, eyelet mesh, and slip stitch “ribbing”

The Backstory:

I fell in love with Fuse’s yarn early on as a knitter, and it’s with great joy that this shawl design helped me develop something new: a slip stitch tab that replaces a garter tab for triangle shawls.

The single ply yarn is stunningly gorgeous at this loose gauge, and the original deep purple and gray reminded me of chain mail knit up, so there came the name!

No short rows;, just increases and lace make up the shaping, and big, color- blocked stripes. Fewer ends, fewer problems.
