We are very lucky to have the most fabulous farm near to our home. They grow fields of flowers and harvest the petals to use as wedding confetti – very environmentally friendly, sustainable and insect friendly. In the summer, our green and pleasant land is punctuated by fields of red, white and blue (as well as a little pink and lilac) larkspur! No wedding is complete without confetti and it is truly wonderful to be able to use some that is grown on our doorstep. If confetti is not your thing, and you prefer your petals and flowers in your own garden, then Larkspur make the most wonderful cut flower; as an added bonus they quite often self-seed so you will have them for years to come.

Larksmeadow is a wonderfully simple shawl, just as suitable for everyday wear as it is for a bride. Highly adaptable in size, with the ability to work extra garter stitch or extra floral lace, it is easy to make Larksmeadow your own. As a nod to the Confetti Farm, I used a bead mix for my original shawl and applied them randomly (though I confess to ensuring there were never a row of three of the same colour/bead) and used a little more structure for the final two beaded rows.

REQUIREMENTS
Size: As written – 70.5” (179cm) wide, 16” (41cm) deep after blocking, though the shawl is easily enlarged or reduced by working specified charts fewer or additional times – this will result in an change in yardage and bead requirements. Measurements taken using The Fibre Co Meadow. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only.
Yarn: One or Two Skeins (depending on required size) of The Fibre Co Meadow.
Circular Needles: 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4mm (US6) about 1.0m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should have good drape.
You will also need: stitch markers, just under 600 size 6 Miyuki or Toho seed beads (as written – it works really well with beads that match Yarn A), needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats, cro-tat needle or small crochet hook for applying beads as all beads are applied to the stitch as you knit. Do not string beads onto the yarn prior to working.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 21 sts to 4” before blocking and 15 sts to 4” after – measurement taken over Chart 2 using 3.75mm (US 5) needles.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or colour bead placement in coloured pencils.

The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.
