Large (with attitude) Stocking
Since my daughter loves to donate to the “ringing” Santas at the stores at Christmas….every pattern sold - I will donate $2 to the Salvation Army!
Santa was frustrated at our house because our stockings were not large enough to conform to lots of odd shaped gifts that he wanted to put into our stockings. So I decided that I could fix this problem. I came up with a stocking that is large enough with style to handle lots of gifts. It is knitted flat and joined with a seam on the back part of the sock. I designed it this way so that the stripes would match and not be off a row using circular needles.
You could use whatever yarn you would like to use that fits the gauge or alter the needle size and yarn to fit your needs. I used a cotton yarn because it shows the detail of the stitching. I think I would like the soft look of wool if I made a set of stockings again. Also, the Berroco cotton yarn that I used came in nice vibrant colors that I wanted in our stockings.
I did not give a yardage total because I used parts of my skeins to make the stripes and I have no idea how much of each I used. I also used one color in more than one stocking and I did not measure when I finished each stocking. Sorry……
The one problem I have found….when I hang these stockings….they are so big that they roll around when hanging and I could not see the whole “stocking” shape. So….when these are hanging for the season empty…I inserted a cardboard stocking cutout that I made that fit the shape of these stockings. These kept their shape and looked great!
