This pattern is inspired by the historical character Lagertha as depicted on the television show Vikings. Lagertha is a shieldmaiden, wife to infamous Viking Ragnar Lothbrok and mother to Bjorn Ironside. While a fierce warrior, she dreams of settling down on fertile land to farm. Unfortunately circumstances seem to work against this desire, and she often finds herself brandishing a sword and shield. Lagertha is usually shown with various braids in her hair, often disheveled from battle.

This pattern is asymmetric as her braids often are, so two charts are given in order to mirror the pattern for left and right socks. The heel flap may be worked in pattern or using an eye of partridge (EOP) option.

This sock comes in 2 sizes - 72 st and 80 sts. Because of the cables, this sock pulls in and knits up snug for the stitch count. One may work the larger size, go up to 2.5mm needles and/or heavier fingering weight yarn, choose a yarn with some stretch/sproing, or add additional ribbing between chart repeats if necessary.
