You’ll often see lace used as panels or insertions in otherwise plain garments.  Typically, the insertions are simple vertical or horizontal strips of lace.  But in this striking sweater, Norah Gaughan carved out a broad notch at the front neckline and filled it with an asymmetrical lace motif that forms scalloping ripples at the neck.  The openwork pattern in the neck insert is repeated as an allover pattern in the sleeves.  When worn, the intentionally narrow sleeves stretch slightly to showcase the lacy look.
