La Bonita Cloche
“La Bonita” is Spanish for “the pretty one” or “the beauty.” You’ll feel beautiful wearing this face-framing hat with contrasting welted stripes and a subtle flare on one side. Knit it in your favorite tropical colors for a cheerful accent to your winter wardrobe, then embellish with a reversible flower / sunburst to change the look.
Gauge: 5.5 st / 7 rows = 1” / 2.54 cm in St st
Size: Women’s S (M, L). Hat body circumference: 21 (22, 23)” / 53 (56, 58.5) cm. Photos show

Needles: US 2 (2.75 mm) circular and dpn (OR size to obtain gauge)
Yarn: Cascade 220, 100% Peruvian highland wool, 220 yd / 200 m, color 7823 (orange) and 7803 (magenta) and - 1 skein each or about 65 (70, 75) yd / 59 (63, 68) m of Color A (accent) and 216 (240, 267) yd / 198 (220, 244) m of Color B (main) worsted weight yarn, or approx. 281 (310, 342) yd / 257 (283, 312) m for a solid-color hat. The sunburst uses approx. 28 yd / 25 m.
Notions: Stitch marker; yarn needle for weaving in ends; bowl for blocking, one 3/4” button (shown: #2295, Creative Buttons by JHB International), safety pin (optional).
Skills: Knit, purl, knitting in the round, short rows, decreasing.
Construction: Bottom up, knit mostly in the round with short rows in brim. No sewing. A reversible flower / sunburst is knit separately and can be sewn on or attached with a safety pin.
Notes: Knitting is begun on circular needle. Change over to dpns when too few stitches remain to work comfortably.
