From Nancy Bush's Pattern Introduction These colorful mittens were inspired by some I saw pictured in Mulgi Kinkindad ja Kirsukad. They're named for Kristi… a delightful young woman who helped translate the finer points of Estonian knitting during four exciting days at Mardilaat, the St. Martin's Day Festival and Market, in Tallinn.
The hand is decorated with the rattakiri or wheel pattern and the cuff is made in the diagonal "fishtail" pattern that, when colors are changed every three or four rounds, gives the illusion of entrelac. The Continental cast-on is used for this mitten and a "two-wick" decrease in alternating colors shapes the top of the hand and thumb. The colors reflect those described in the Konsin book, Slimkoeesemed.
