KNOTICAL SOCKS
………………….…………
In the process of designing this 4th instalment in the Simply Stranded Summer Sock Club, I ended up with two separate colourwork charts and could not choose between them. So I decided to include both!
A playful tangle of nautical and knot the Knotical motifs were inspired by the many discarded maritime objects I find on the pier outside my studio.
Knotical I
This simple design features alternating rows of cable-chains and rope buoys. If you are just dipping your toes into stranded colourwork, Knotical I is the easiest pattern in the Simply Stranded Summer Sock Club - with actual colourwork worked for only on 3 rounds of each repeat.
Knotical II
A slightly more intricate take on the nautical theme, this design features alternating rows of elegant anchor-links and miniature sea-waves. With colourwork worked on half the rounds of every repeat, Knotical II is still very easy, whilst a bit more detail-oriented and aesthetically nuanced.
The two charts can be used interchangeably, or even combined on the same sock if you like. Try a palette of burgundy-white-navy as shown for the traditional look. Alternatively, consider orange-cream-turquoise for a more unexpected variant that still references the nautical. Or, of course, go with any colour combination of your choosing for a fun and colourful pair of summer socks uniquely your own.
In addition to two separate sets of colour charts, the Knotical Socks include a short story at the end of the pattern.
………………….…………
Like all patterns in the Simply Stranded Summer Sock Club, the Knotical Socks feature the following:
. instructions for knitting the socks cuff down and toe-up
. options for two types of heel construction:
peasant heel and short row heel
. colourwork charts based on a simple 4-stitch repeat that is top-down reversible, and can be worked either for the entire sock or just for the leg
. an extensive appendix with adjustment and modification options
. a short narrative about the inspiration behind the pattern
