Knossos Shrug
This is a pattern from the collection History on Two Needles, by Annie Modesitt.
Inspired by a statuette discovered on Crete of a Minoan Snake “goddess” I interpreted her outer garment as a shrug.
The lace pattern used in the shrug is linear, measured, rhythmic, to honor the strong weaving tradition in the Mediterranean.
The pattern of the shrug is very simple: there is no shaping within the garment; instead, the silhouette is achieved by folding and adding a waistband after the main body is finished.
I chose a lovely raw silk by Mango Moon to bridge the simplicity of line with a sophisticated, understated, but luxurious fiber.
