This pattern is available for free.

This pattern would work equally well for kids; just start the decrease rows when you have many fewer sts on the needles. This also works well for scraps, and looks rather jaunty made up in stripes…just join in the scrap and knit until you run out of that color and tie in a new piece. I have made bunches of these and dropped them off at homeless and women’s shelters.

Finishing: Cut 19” piece of elastic. Work one row of sc (single crochet) on bound off edge working over elastic, skipping every 4th stitch. Tie or sew elastic to desired head size. Block over a round piece of cardboard cut to 9 1/4” (a dinner plate works). Brush. Wear.
