Knitted Lace Undersleeves
Since this is an historical pattern, there is typically no gauge given. The original pattern calls for “Marsland boar’s-head cotton, No. 40” and “No. 50” but no yardage or amount of skeins is stated. Two sizes of needles are needed; one for the “puffing” and the “insertion” between “the puffing,” and a smaller size for the “Knitted Lace Ruffle” which also calls for a different size cotton as noted above.
There is an illustration of the sleeve above the pattern on page 66 of the January, 1855 issue of Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine.
