This versatile shawl will keep you in the game all season long! Worked from the wide end to the narrow end in stockinette with a fun stitch pattern in between, this becomes an easier knit as the (long) season plays on. The knitting of this pattern is based on events as they happen. The color you work with switches between home games and road games. Beads are used to “knit the season”, giving you flexibility to use any yarn colors you choose. Knit with your team’s colors or choose something different. You’ll be proud to wear this shawl you’ve knit for your favorite baseball team’s season.

This pattern can be knit for any season. The pattern is named for the season it was designed. A video link for placing beads is provided.

The length of the finished shawl depends on the number of games played by your team during the season. There are 162 regular season games. If your team does not make the postseason or if you choose not to knit the postseason, the approximate length is 49”/125 cm. If your team makes the postseason and you would like to include those games and depending on how many games they play in the postseason, the approximate maximum length is 55”/140 cm.

A progress tracker to keep track of the season and check off each row as you work is included as a separate file.

425 yds/389 m of one color for Home Games (Home Color)
425 yds/389 m of a second color for Road Games (Road Color)
150 yds/137 m of a third color (Contrast Color)
US size 5/3.75 mm minimum 24”/60 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
Approx. 1,000 size 6 Japanese seed beads in each of 2 different colors for a total of 2,000 beads (see Pattern Notes)
Note: Beads per gram can vary by manufacturer. 1,000 beads weighs between approximately 65 grams and 85 grams, depending on the manufacturer
