Knarr
A Knarr is a type of Viking longboat used for sea voyaging.
Knarr started as an experiment to see how many Herringbone stitch patterns I could fit into one design.
One stitch pattern forms the basis of the main panels of the top. To give added dimension to the piece I added a cable chain running up the centre. This panel made me think of a fish spine but also Vikings on a long boat, holding oars.
This pattern features step by step photos and is 46 pages long. There is a linked printer friendly pattern for those that just want the basics. I have also linked videos to the more complex parts and added hand drawn charts.
This is a made to measure pattern and has been tested in different yarn weights. James C Brett’s Marbled Chunky is a favourite yarn to work up a sweater quickly.
This pattern features the slightly awkward herringbone single crochet in parts, but normal single crochet can be used instead.
