King Edward VIII Stamp Illusion
After completing our First Class Illusion Knit, based on the British postage stamp depicting Queen Ellizabeth II, this latest illusion design, based on another British postage stamp, seemed appropriate. This is the one old penny postage stamp showing Queen Elizabeth’s uncle Edward VIII.
The stamp was published on 14 September, 1936. The King abdicated in December of that year. Many stamps were saved, in perfect condition, because people expected them to become valuable. They did not because a very large number had been distributed and continued to be used for another year.
At 68 cm wide by 80 cm high the piece is the same size as the First Class illusion knit so that it could be displayed as one of a pair.
The third photograph here shows the piece when viewed from directly in front.
