DESCRIPTION
These classic, convertible mitts are designed to free your fingers when you need them and keep them warm and cozy when you don’t — just (un)fold the extra long hands and thumbs as needed. Featuring all over 2x2 ribbing with subtle increasing for the thumb gusset, the Kindling Mitts make for a simple, beginner-friendly design that is straightforward and quick to knit up.
The pattern includes numbers for fingering weight and dk weight yarn, with 5 sizes from toddler through adult large.

SIZING
Fingering weight:
SIZE 1: Toddler, 5”/12.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 2: Child, 5.75”/14.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 3: Adult S, 6.25”/15.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 4: Adult M, 7”/17.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 5: Adult L, 7.5”/19cm palm circumference
DK weight:
SIZE 1: Toddler, 4.75”/12cm palm circumference
SIZE 2: Child, 5.75”/14.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 3: Adult S, 6.5”/16.5cm palm circumference
SIZE 4: Adult M, 7.25”/18cm palm circumference
SIZE 5: Adult L, 8”/20cm palm circumference
To choose your size, measure the circumference of the palm of your hand. Pattern is written with approximately 1”/2.5cm of negative ease across the size range. For finished mitt measurements, see full schematic.
In the pattern photos, the brown mitts are fingering weight size Adult M and the grey mitts is dk weight Adult M. Both mitts are worn with 1”/2.5cm of negative ease.

GAUGE, NEEDLES, NOTIONS
Fingering weight:
Gauge: 26 sts and 34 rows over 4”/10cm in stockinette after blocking
Recommended needles: US4 (3.5mm) DPNs or 32” (80cm) circular
DK weight:
Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm in stockinette after blocking
Recommended needles: US7 (4.5mm) DPNs or 32” (80cm) circular
Additional supplies: stitch markers, stitch holders or scrap yarn, darning needle

YARN
The Kindling Mitts were designed in White Gum Wool, an ethical superfine Merino from the Tasmanian Midlands. This yarn is extremely soft and springy with a tight ply and beautiful stitch definition. Any wool or wool-blend yarn with good stitch definition and memory should work nicely for this pattern.
