KIMONO
The KIMONO has been used in Japan for more than 1000 years - and not just as a garment.
Motifs, colors and decoration on beautiful silk fabrics - all personal symbols of where you are in life. Age, status, wealth or ready for marriage? it’s all symbolized in your kimono.
Today we have completely different ways of communicating. We still love the kimono, though most of us would prefer a more anonymous version.
This KIMONO is worked flat - back, fronts and sleeves are worked separately, and eventually assembled into a beautifully marked raglan, and ending with a shawl collar. Sleeves and side seams must be sewn together eventually. But it is worth the trouble, because the side seams help keep the shape, in the slightly heavy and flexible ribbed pattern. In the side seams there are knitted pockets. The pattern is Fishermen’s rib, where you knit in the stitch below.
Materials
MEDIUM eco wool from hyggestrik.dk or similar Sport weight wool - 191 yd (175 m) / 50 g.

1 set of DPN size US 4 & 6 (3.5 & 4 mm)
1 cable needle size US 6 (or use a DPN)

Gauge
18 stitches & 46 rows in Fishermen’s rib - suggested needle size US 6 (4 mm) = 4” (10 cm) after wash and blocking
The pattern is calculated in number of rows and not by measure. The change in the weight of the wool and the ribbed pattern, when it is washed and blocked, are taken into account. All yarns behave differently, so wash your gauge-sample before start.
