The three projects in this pattern set are designed to teach basic crochet skills sequentially to children, aged 7 through 16. The patterns assume that an adult has demonstrated and taught the child how to make chains and perhaps single crochet stitches. The three projects are fun and yield rewarding results for kids, quickly, adding to the enjoyment of their new craft.
Project 1 teaches single crochet into an elastic ring, and combines sc with chain stitches to create a “scrunchie” hair tie or bracelet.
Project 2 teaches sc into the chain and into sc stitches, and stitch counting/reading. Kids make a “Silly Snake Toy” in this project.
Project 3 teaches sc in rows, with turning. The project, a felted change/ipod/cell phone purse is very forgiving of those “first try” mistakes in tension and lost/gained stitches…. felting makes almost all mistakes of these common types, disappear.

These projects have been tested, summer of 2008 by over 70 girls, in groups of 7-12 students per teacher, at the camp where I teach crochet.
