The pattern includes instructions for either the hat or the cowl, depicting some familiar sights from Tenterden in Kent, including a windmill, some converted oast housesm, an apple and a hop flower, and St Mildred’s Church. Around the base runs the Kent and East Sussex steam railway. You can omit the trains for a snugger fitting hat.

The pattern is one-size, to fit an adult head approx. 22” circumference. The pattern is knit with two colours of Kinross 4ply and uses one hank of each colour for either the hat or the cowl version. The sample shown is knit with Scots Pine and Seashell. They are knit in the round using stranded knitting. There are some long floats so please make sure you are comfortable with catching floats for this design. It uses 3mm needles for the ribbing and 3.25mm for the body. A 40cm circular in the 3mm and 3.25mm works best for the hat, with a longer circular (for magic loop) or DPNs in the larger size for the crown. The cowl can be done on a 60cm or 80cm of both sizes.

The cowl version is made by repeating the chart twice round with ribbing at the top and the bottom, it can also be made from a single 50g hank of Kinross 4ply in each of two colours. The hat uses about 25g of the foreground colour and 30g of the background colour. The cowl uses about 40g of both colours.

We have a range of skyline hat/cowl patterns, mostly from Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Stirling, as well as a handful of locations from south of the border.
