Kangaroo Jumper
This cosy jumper is knitted in the round from the bottom up. After working a broken rib, stitches are created for the pocket lining which is worked using double-layered knitting. The pocket is completed and joined back into the body. The jumper is worked without shaping to the underarms then divided for front and back which are knitted flat and joined at the shoulders with three-needle bind off after some short row shaping. Drop shoulder sleeves are knitted top down and finished with a long cuff with a thumb hole. The neck is completed with a large, ribbed shawl collar. There is one small bit of sewing to complete the collar. The broken rib is echoed at the sides of the pocket openings and the top of the sleeves.
For anyone who is nervous about double-knitting the pocket lining, instructions are given for knitting this separately to be stitched.
This jumper is knitted in Shilasdair’s beautiful Glas Aran, 75% Bluefaced Leicester and 25% Masham and hand dyed with Tansy plants.. However, the garment will knit up with any Aran yarn that gives gauge of 18 sts and 27 rows to 10cm.
