Kaipara is a long narrow shawlette/scarf hybrid. It utilizes raglan shaping at the back to give an interesting shape, and a nice ‘stay put’ fit if you wish to wear it wrapped like a traditional shawl. Fast increases on the edges give long wings which allow it to be wrapped around your neck several times if you prefer a scarf-like effect. Worn with one of the raglan points at the front, it also wraps asymmetrically for something a little different.

With a garter stitch body and a simple 2 stitch/2 row lace repeat, this is a very easy and fast knit. Perfect for when you want a soothing, no concentrating knit -but with a striking result.
Pattern includes options for 2 edgings - ruffled (yellow/blue gradient pictured) and not ruffled/more lace (purple/white gradient).

Kaipara was designed with gradient skeins in mind and with regular weighing of your remaining yarn you will be able to knit to as close to the end of your skein as possible. There is a worksheet included to help with this.

The PDF you are downloading is 5 pages. If you wish to conserve printer ink just print pg 2-4 which is the pattern itself and worksheet. There are no photos on these 3 pages.

The Kaipara Harbour is the largest enclosed harbour and estuary system in New Zealand. With over 800km of beautiful coastline, it is home to a multitude of bird and aquatic species, sand dune formations and exotic forest. From where I sit typing this now, I can a sliver of the water glistening in the sun. It reminds me of why I love living in unspoiled, beautiful Northland.
