Kaede
When summers in Seattle roll in, all of the neighborhoods celebrate with the reopening of their farmer’s markets. This year, we are celebrating with them with a Summer Craft Along featuring market bags. Kaede is Emerald City Yarn’s crochet market bag, written by one of the co-owners, Noriko Ho.
It starts with the circular base, then build up the body, upper edge, and the two handles. Pattern does have directions if you choose to use a different yarn or alter the size of the bag. Enjoy!
Materials
Yarn
2 skeins of Berroco Modern Cotton DK (60% cotton, 40% modal rayon; 335yds 305m/3.5oz 100g in colorway 6663 Hope (sample took almost all of both skeins)
or 670yds/613m of a light DK weight yarn
Hook
D 3.25mm, or size to obtain gauge
Note about hook size: Modern Cotton DK is a lightweight DK yarn and calls for a D hook. If substituting yarn, use the hook size that the yarn band calls for.
Notions
Tapestry Needle, removable stitch marker
Gauge
24 sts (or 6 full repeats) x 14 rows = 4” x 4” 10cm x 10cm in granny stripe pattern, unblocked.
Note about gauge: Gauge is not crucial for this project. Changing gauge will affect yardage used.
Final dimensions
8”/20cm bottom circumference x 10”/25cm tall (not including strap length) x 29”/74cm upper bag circumference
