With its relaxed fit, subtle colourwork edgings and curved hemline, Juvelprydd is a casually elegant jacket that is simultaneously cozy and dressy.

From the contiguous saddle shoulders, to the lateral hem, turned edgings and no-steek collar, this pattern is brimming with engaging yet intuitive techniques.

Try it in woollen-spun DK for an airy, diaphanous garment, or in an Aran-weight tweed for a firm and structured jacket.

Note this pattern now also includes an Appendix for working the edgings without colourwork in a way that retains the structure aesthetic intended by the design.

NOTES

Garment Construction
This jacket is worked seamlessly from the top down. The yoke is worked back and forth flat in one piece, with contiguous saddle shoulders and scoop neckline shaping. With sleeve sts set aside on scrap yarn, the Bodice is continued top-down with optional waist shaping, then finished with a lateral rib Hem. Sleeves are picked up from live sts and worked top-down in the round. Sts are then picked up at the Neckline to work the Neckband.

Yarn Selection
Because of the difference in gauge between the main fabric and the colourwork edgings, you can choose to work this jacket in either the same yarn weight throughout, or select a lighter weight yarn for the edgings, as follows:


Option A:
Use the same DK to Aran weight yarn for entire garment. 


Option B:
Use a DK to Aran weight yarn for MC.
Use sportweight yarns for CC1 and CC2. 


Option C:
Use the same sport weight yarn for entire garment, holding it double for MC, and single-stranded for CC1 and CC2. 


Note that Option A will produce cuffs and neckband that are considerably stiffer and more structured than the other options.

This sample is Size 2 and is modelled with 8cm/ 6” of ease around the chest.
