If you’re not sure what to knit and you have one skein of fingering weight yarn, maybe you should just knit a cowl.

Specifically, this cowl!

This is a very simple to stitch pattern that lets the yarn do the work. I designed with with the self-patterning Arne & Carlos Socks & More 4 ply and the striping with the size C stitch count makes me so happy.

But really, any skein of fingering weight yarn can grow up to be this cowl. Your pooling, patterning, or striping may vary depending on the type of yarn you use, but I also think that’s part of the fun. Let the yarn take the lead!

This pattern is graded to use skeins that are 400, 420, or 459 yards of fingering weight yarn. It’s also perfect for mini skein sets or scraps.

Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced Beginner
